Introduction and Performance

The Xiaomi Black Shark Helo has certainly been designed with gaming as the primary focus. The phone offers front-facing speakers with vapor chamber cooling, both of which are designed to enhance gaming experience. The entire device is black with a textured pattern on the back panel paired with green accents all around. Furthermore, it has an RGB illuminated logo at the back, and on strips at its sides. For security, the phone comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Powering this phone is the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with Adreno 630 GPU.

Camera and Storage

For imaging, the Black Shark Helo offers a 12MP +20MP dual camera setup at its rear. The primary sensor offers an f/1.75 aperture with large 1.25μm pixels. The secondary 20MP lens also comes with an f/1.75 aperture. This setup is capable of recording 4K videos at a maximum of 30fps. The front camera, on the other hand, is a 20MP lens with an f/2.2 aperture.

Three storage configurations are offered with the base model starting off with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The next model offers the same storage but with 8GB of RAM. The top end model is equipped with a whopping 10GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space. Xiaomi hasn’t yet confirmed whether the phone offer microSD card support.

Battery and Display

This beast is powered by a massive 4000mAh cell which supports Quick Charge 3.0. Charging is handled over the provided USB Type-C port.

There is no notch on its large 6.01-inch AMOLED screen. It retains an aspect ratio of 18:9 while offering an FHD+ 1080 x 2160) resolution. While the refresh rate is still 60Hz unfortunately, you do get support for HDR10 content. Furthermore, a dedicated chip by Pixelworks allows SDR content to be converted into HDR during playback in real-time. The display even boasts 100% coverage of the NTSC color space.
